 Trauma Counsellor

Surrey Women’s Centre (SWC) is looking for Registered Clinical Counsellors/Canadian Certified Counsellors (RCC/CCC) and/or Registered Social Workers with Master’s Level of Social Work Degree (RSW) to work in two counselling positions, including a full time trauma therapist or a contract therapist position.

 

Due to Covid-19, there has been a higher demand for trauma informed services, specifically among survivors of gender based violence, and thus more counsellors are needed to keep up with the growing demands of the counselling program.

 

Position 1) Trauma Therapist: Full time position (35 hours)

Job Type: Full-time (Monday-Friday), including extended benefits

Salary: $30.00- $32.00 per hour

 

Applicants must be eligible to work with various benefit providers including Crime Victim Assistance (CVAP), First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), and various extended health benefit programs. Counselling is performed at our Newton location from Monday-Friday. Due to Covid-19, we are currently operating from a hybrid model, offering virtual and in-person sessions. There may be clients who prefer video or phone sessions at the moment, but applicants must be open to in-person sessions. There are Covid-19 safety protocols to keep yourself and your clients safe.

We serve all genders. Referrals are disproportionately self-identified women.

External clinical supervision is accessible every month.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide trauma-informed short term and long term individual counselling to trauma survivors
  • To work collaboratively with members of both SWC counselling teams and additional SWC team members
  • To maintain accurate up-to-date records and case notes, including documentation of all client contacts, referrals to and consultation with community agencies and professionals.

Qualifications:

  • RCC, CCC or RSW designation or another related credential
  • Demonstrates experience providing crisis intervention and counselling support to individuals for survivors of violence from a feminist, harm-reduction, and trauma-informed perspective.
  • Meets eligibility for registration with BC’s Crime Victim Assistance Program. Preference will be given to CVAP registered counsellors. Preference will also be given to counsellors who are registered with First Nations Health Authority (FNHA)
  • Knowledge of appropriate community resources and experience making referrals.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with diverse clientele, and cultural competency.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills.

 

Position 2) Contract Therapist

Job Type: Contract, Part time or Full time

Salary: 50/50 fee-split per hour/session, depending on funding source. Range between $40.00- $62.00.

Interested in private practice but don’t want to run your own business? Surrey Women’s Centre is looking for Registered Clinical Counsellors/Canadian Certified Counsellors (RCC/CCC) and/or Registered Social Workers with Master’s Level of Social Work Degree (RSW) qualified to work in private practice.

Counsellors will be independent contractors and compensated on a 50/50 fee-split depending on the source of client funding.  Funding sources include, but are not limited to: CVAP ($40.00 per hr/session); Self pay ($40.00 per hr/session); FNHA ($45.00 per hr/session); Work BC ($55.00 per hr/session); ICBC ($62.00 per hr/session).

Applicants must be eligible to work with various benefit providers including Crime Victim Assistance (CVAP), First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), and various extended health benefit programs. Counselling is performed at our Newton location, on days and times of the week that fit the contractors schedule.
