EVA BC Annual Training Forum

On November 15th, Surrey Women’s Centre had the pleasure of getting to present with one our partners, Fraser Health, at the Ending Violence Association of British Columbia (EVA BC) Annual Training Forum. The Forensic Nurses of Surrey Memorial and Nurse Practitioner of the Embrace Clinic, spoke on the importance of how forensic evaluation can support survivors of sexual and domestic assault, and to the importance of medical follow up after the hospital. While the SMART program coordinator of Surrey Women’s Centre, spoke to the importance of the early intervention supports a SMART worker can provide the woman while in the hospital, and the long-term supports in the days, weeks, and months to follow the incident. The partnership of a Forensic Nurse and a SMART support worker supports 500+  women per year. This is an essential service provided by SWC, and this program has no government funding.
