On Saturday, December 1 Vancouver Rape Relief and Women's Shelter will be hosting a day of remembrance and action on violence against women. The Montreal Massacre Memorial will be held from 10:00am to 6:00 pm at the Vancouver Public Library. A number of fascinating lectures and roundtable discussions will be held throughout the day, covering topics such as "Male Violence Against Women, Violence Against The Planet" and "Pornifying Violence Against Women".
For the entire month of November Joytv will be airing an informational piece about Surrey Women's Centre. The piece, which focuses on our new Surrey Mobile Assault Response Team, discusses the vital role our 24-hour emergency service plays in helping women and children who are fleeing violence. Yesterday evening's pub night at Bogy's Gastro Pub was a blast, with excellent food, a 50/50 draw, toonie toss, and even karaoke! Not only did everyone have a great time, but Clover Village Square Shoppers Drug Mart raised $1140 for Surrey Women's Centre!

Royal LePage Coronation Park will be hosting a Holiday Shopping Event on Thursday, November 15th at Eaglequest Coyote Creek golf course (7778-152nd Street, Surrey) from 6:00pm-9:00pm. This event is being held to help raise funds for Surrey Women's Centre as part of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.
Clover Village Square Shoppers Drug Mart has just announced details of their pub night, which is being held to raise money for Surrey Women's Centre as part of Shoppers Drug Mart's Tree of Life Campaign. Pub night will be held on Thursday, October 25 at Bogey's Pub in Cloverdale (5640 188th Street) from 6:30pm-9:00pm. Not only will half of each $20 ticket sold go directly to Surrey Women's Centre, Bogey's has generously offered to match all money earned from games and 50/50 draw!!
Available space at Tipping the Scales of Justice: Supporting Women, Children and Families, is filling up quickly. The conference, hosted by the Network to End Violence in Relationships, will explore the best approaches to dealing with domestic violence in the courts and will offer service providers and other professionals the chance to come together to discuss how to increase the safety of women and children in our community by eliminating violence.
Thanks to Shoppers staff, makeup artists and volunteers who worked so hard to put together Friday night's Girl Power Gala. The event was a definite success, with a huge turnout of people all coming together to support Surrey Women's Centre. Having enjoyed professional makeovers, relaxing massages and funky hair feathers, it's safe to say all of our guests left feeling and looking great!

Today marks the very first International Day of the Girl Child, as declared by the UN last December. International Day of the Girl Child advocates girls' rights and gender equality bringing attention to the discrimination and abuse many girls around the world face on a daily basis.
The government of British Columbia released its plan yesterday to strengthen the response to domestic violence in our province. The plan, which is led by the Provincial Office of Domestic Violence, includes training for professionals throughout the province to help them recognize and respond to domestic violence. The plan also introduces improvements to the integrated justice information database to help identify cases involving child victims, as well as policies aimed to identify strengths an gaps in service provision.
