Family Court

Family Law Clinic

Once a week, this clinic provides trained lawyers who offer free, legal information to victims of domestic violence and abuse who cannot afford a lawyer and are ineligible for legal aid.

These volunteer lawyers provide information on Family Law issues like child custody and access, guardianship, separation and divorce. They also explore a woman’s legal rights, options and remedies under the province’s Family Relations Act. The lawyers are not able to accompany victims to court but help them prepare for their next court date. They also discuss the case, explore legal options and may refer a client to other community resources, if necessary.

If you are a lawyer specializing in Family Law who is interested in providing support to women fleeing violence, please contact us to learn how to get involved.
